Man Killed as Woman Fleeing Minor Accident Hits 10 Cars, Police Say

TRAVIS — A man died and 12 people were injured after a driver fled a minor accident and smashed into several other vehicles at a red light, police said.

The woman's car hit the vehicles waiting at the traffic light at Victory Boulevard and Travis Avenue at 1:43 p.m. and went airborne, crashing down into intersection and hitting more cars, police said.

Police said the woman had been speeding away from a minor accident on Travis Avenue.

In all, 10 vehicles were involved. A 75-year-old man who was driving one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene, the NYPD said. 

Of the injured, 10 people were taken to area hospitals and two declined medical treatment.

The woman in the initial accident was taken to Staten Island Hospital in critical condition, police said.

No arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon.
