QUEENS — Police in Forest Hills are investigating a recent string of thefts from cars in the neighborhood, local police officials said.

At least 11 cars were broken into over five days, between June 6 and 10, according to Capt. Robert Ramos, the 112th Precinct's new commanding officer.

Most incidents took place around midnight as thieves broke into cars parked along Austin, Burns, Dartmouth and Groton streets as well as Queens and Yellowstone boulevards and 76th Road.

Most of the vehicles were left unlocked, Ramos said at a precinct community council meeting earlier this week, but in several cases, thieves broke the windows to get inside.

They made off with wallets and credits cards as well as several laptops that were left in the cars, Ramos said.

“You should always lock the car, even if it’s parked in your driveway,” Ramos said, adding that patrols have been increased in the area.

Police also reminded residents not to leave valuables in their cars.
