HELL'S KITCHEN — A student hit a teacher in the neck with a firecracker after throwing it at a group of teachers, the NYPD said.

The 32-year-old teacher at the Business of Sports School, at 439 W. 49th St. between Ninth and Tenth avenues, told police he was walking near the northeast corner of West 49th Street and Ninth Avenue around 2:52 p.m. on June 3 when the student chucked the firecracker at a group of teachers.

The firecracker hit the man in the neck, but he was not injured, police said. It was not clear whether the firecracker was lit or what type of firecracker it was.

A city Department of Education spokeswoman Wednesday said the department “immediately responded to and addressed" the incident.

“Staff followed protocol, there were no injuries, and the student was disciplined appropriately,” she added.

She did not say whether the student, who police said was 16, attended the school.

The principal of the Business of Sports School did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.
