BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A fire tore through a church in Bedford-Stuyvesant early Wednesday morning, officials and congregation members said.

Firefighters responded to a call at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church on Quincy Street between Classon and Franklin avenues around 1:15 a.m., according to an FDNY spokesman.

The blaze was brought under control about an hour later and no injuries were reported, officials said.

Members gathered in front of the building Wednesday morning, surveying the damage.

The fire spread through the first floor, though the sanctuary was spared, said a member who declined to be named.

Church members at Mt. Sinai will celebrate their 97th anniversary as a congregation this September, they said.

The church moved to the Quincy Street building in 1955 after starting in a small Bed-Stuy storefront in 1919 and relocating around the neighborhood, according to the church’s website.

Fire marshals will determine the cause of the blaze, according to the FDNY.
