NEW YORK CITY — Summer vacation is nearly here and city streets are being turned over to the kids for safe playing.
The century-old Playstreets program, which closes city streets to give children safe places to play and build relationships with police officers, is running from July 5 to Aug. 19 at more than 40 locations around the city, according to an announcement Tuesday from the Police Athletic League. The program will run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Playstreets locations will feature sports, arts and crafts, games, music, Double Dutch, dancing, hopscotch and basketball.
