CHELSEA — A trio of dance companies will perform for free at Hudson River Park this week.

Stephen Petronio Company, Lar Lubovitch Dance Company and Urban Bush Women are joining forces for the second-annual Hudson River Dance Festival at Pier 63 on Wednesday, June 15, and Thursday, June 16, at 6:30 p.m.

The troupes’ performances will “spotlight the culturally rich and stylistically innovative world of dance that makes New York the epicenter of the American dance scene,” a release said.

“New York City is the world’s cultural epicenter for modern dance,” Hudson River Park Trust CEO and president Madelyn Wils added. “We invite everyone to join us at Hudson River Park’ Pier 63 waterfront for the unusual vision of contemporary dance with the Hudson River as its magnificent backdrop.”

Stephen Petronio Company will showcase a 2014 dance called “Locomotor,” which “addresses the elemental act of bodies traveling” and features costumes created by designer Narcisco Rodriguez.

Lar Lubovitch will perform two duets — one that pays tribute to composer Richard Rodgers, and a second set to Mozart’s "Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra" that was “inspired by the support shown by friends and communities during the height of the AIDS crisis.”

Urban Bush Women, meanwhile, will celebrate “bold and iconic dance moments from three decades of the company’s work” with its “30th Anniversary Mash Up” performance.

The two-day festival will feature the same program on both nights.

"There’s something exciting about bringing a work that’s been sealed inside the theater out into a public space,” artistic director and choreographer Stephen Petronio said. “Sharing a performance in this way is what summer in the city is all about."

Pier 63 is located on the Hudson River between West 22nd and 24th streets.
