TRIBECA —The chef behind Ichimura at Brushstroke, a 12-seat much-praised sushi table at the David Bouley restaurant, is striking out on his own.
Elji Ichimura, a sushi chef for more than 40 years, is readying to open Ichidan, a sushi restaurant that keeps with his simple small aesthetic.
The eatery, at 69 Leonard St., will only have 10 seats and offer two dinner seating times per night. The food is omakase style — meaning the chef chooses each course of a tasting menu, based on fresh, seasonal ingredients, according to the restaurant’s liquor license application.
It was not immediately clear when Ichidan would open.
Community Board 1’s TriBeCa committee gave Ichimura its support for his liquor license with closing hours at 12:30 a.m. on weekdays and 1:30 a.m. on weekends.
