MIDTOWN — A thief snatched a woman’s $1,000 necklace as she sat on the stairs leading down to a Midtown subway platform, police said.

The 56-year-old woman from Manhattan was sitting on stairs leading to a northbound platform at the 47-50th Streets-Rockefeller Center station around 4:05 a.m. on May 30 when a man she didn’t know approached her from behind and grabbed the necklace she was wearing, the NYPD said.

The incident left the woman with a red mark on her neck, police said.

The woman followed the thief, and recognized him as someone she’d been on the D train with earlier, the NYPD said.

The man got away with her necklace, police said.
