Williamsburg Father of 2 Fatally Shot During Argument About Money: Reports

By Gwynne Hogan | June 6, 2016 7:58am

WILLIAMSBURG — A young Williamsburg father of two was fatally shot in the chest during an argument on the street early Sunday morning, according to police and reports

Sadan Garcia, 25, was shot on the street near the intersection of South 9th and Berry Streets in South Williamsburg just before 6 a.m., police said.

Relatives with him at the time of the shooting raced him to Woodhull Hospital where he was soon pronounced dead, according to police.

The victim and his relatives knew the gunman and had gotten into an argument about money in the moments leading up to the shooting, the New York Daily News reported.

The shooter fired a round into the air and the men tried to flee their assailant in an SUV, but he pursued them and fired more shots into the car when he neared the intersection of South 9th and Berry, the News reported.

One of the bullets pierced Garcia in the chest, who was sitting in the back seat, according to the News. His friends raced him to Woodhull and were there in about 10 minutes, police said, but it was still too late to save the injured man.

Garcia leaves behind a wife and two young children, according to a GoFundMe campaign set up by a relative soon after the man's death.

Other family members took to Facebook to mourn their deceased loved one.

"You changed your whole life around," cousin Yanira Garcia wrote on her Facebook page. "You became father first...and everything else came later...We were all suppose[d] to grow old together watch our babies grow old and watch our grand babies grow!!"

"I'm still in disbelief," she wrote.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, police confirmed.
