CLAREMONT — A man who police caught jumping a subway turnstile was arrested for carrying a loaded handgun, according to the NYPD.

The arrest happened on Friday about 5:55 p.m. at the northbound 174th Street subway station on the 2 train, when officers noticed 26-year-old Trevale McCall hop over one of the turnstiles to skip out on paying his fare, police said.

The officers stopped McCall on the platform and asked for ID, and when they ran his name, they found out he had an active investigation card, police said.

Officers told McCall he was under arrest, but he fought back against their attempts to handcuff him, police said. Two officers suffered minor injuries during the struggle and were taken to Westchester Medical Center in stable condition, police said.

Officers were eventually able to take McCall into custody after calling for backup, according to the NYPD.

A search revealed that McCall had a loaded Cobra 9 mm handgun wrapped in a gray hooded sweater inside a plastic bag that he was carrying when he was first stopped, police said. The serial number had been scratched off, according to Bronx prosecutors.

McCall has been hit with charges including criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and criminal trespassing, according to the NYPD.
