EAST WILLIAMSBURG — A man washing his car in a gas station parking lot knocked out a drunk man who challenged him to a fight and stole the gold chain he was wearing, according to police.

The 35-year-old victim had jumped into the man's car at the BP Gas Station at 1049 Grand St. just after 12:30 a.m. on May 26. and started touching his things, police said.

The man was acting belligerently and refused to leave the car owner alone, witnesses told police.

The drunk man then challenged the man to a fight, at which point the driver clocked the victim, who crashed to the ground and rammed his head on the pavement, causing him to pass out, according to police.

While the victim was unconscious the perpetrator snatched a gold chain the man had around his neck and drove off.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, police said.

The gas station's cameras didn't capture the actual assault, said BP manager Emrah Yesilyurt. His employees had heard commotion outside but had remained inside fearing for their safety, he said.

The gas station is an located industrial area that's surrounded by a number of clubs and their used to strange, late night happenings, he said.

"Every Friday, Saturday is a party," he said. "People [are] drunk."

No arrests had been made as of Tuesday, police confirmed.
