QUEENS — Police are looking for a scammer who used a stranger's personal information to run up a $4,000 bill at a jewelry store in the Bronx in March, according to the NYPD.

The suspect went to the Zales store at 1480 Metropolitan Ave. in Parkchester on March 8, where he opened an account under the victim's name in order to buy the goods, police said.

The victim, a 55-year-old man, reported the crime to the 114th Precinct in Queens, which includes Astoria and parts of Woodside and Long Island City.

The incident is similar to another that took place earlier this year, when two other identity thieves used a fraudulent account for shopping sprees at Zales stores in Brooklyn and Long Island.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS or for Spanish 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
