CHELSEA — Chelsea Market’s retail space is going to double in size, a report says.

Owner Jamestown will shell out between $35 million and $50 million to create 80,000 square feet of space on the lower level of the market at 75 Ninth Ave., between West 15th and West 16th streets, Crain’s New York reported.

Manhattan Fruit Exchange’s distribution operations will depart from the market’s basement, creating more space for retailers, the report said.

Jamestown is currently in the process of turning a boiler room into space for a restaurant and will “convert the entire basement over the next five years,” Crain’s added.

“Adding the lower level gives us precious square feet in [a real estate] market where there isn’t a lot of retail like this,” Jamestown President Michael Phillips told the outlet.

The market occupies part of a complex that used to be owned by the National Biscuit Company back in the late 1800s.

Now, the building houses offices and retailers and restaurants including Anthropologie, Asian eatery Buddakan and Doughnuttery.

The developer will also be building 300,000 square feet of office space on top of the market.
