3 Train Service Suspended in Harlem Due to Possible Broken Rail, MTA Says

MANHATTAN — Service on the 3 line was suspended between 96th and 148th streets because a rail may have broken on Central Park North Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The MTA learned about the rail malfunction just south of the Central Park North-110th Street subway station at 1:49 p.m., an MTA spokeswoman said.

The MTA shut down service along the 3 line and forced 2 trains to run on the 5 line between 149th Street-Grand Concourse and Nevins Street, the spokeswoman said.

Riders can use the Bx19 on 145th Street for service between Malcolm X Boulevard and Broadway, officials said.

It wasn't clear what damaged the rail or when regular service would resume.

The MTA has crews on scene investigating the rail, the spokeswoman said.

They believe the rail may be broken, but have yet to figure out what exactly happened, she added.
