MIDTOWN — Several businesses on East 46th Street were forced to evacuate Monday morning after a truck backed into scaffolding, according to officials.

The truck clipped the sidewalk shed in front of 12 E. 46th St., between Madison and Fifth avenues, around 8:15 a.m., the Department of Buildings and FDNY said.

“I saw the truck back into the scaffolding,” said Steve Eamfotif, 29, a manager at Gregory’s Coffee Shop. “It just sounded like a big crash.”

Eamfotif said that firefighters told everyone inside the coffee shop to evacuate.

“The Fire Department cleared everyone out of our store and told us we have to go home for the day,” he said.

No one was injured in the incident, according to the FDNY.

The fire department requested a DOB inspection at 12 E. 46th St., according to records. It was not immediately clear how many businesses were affected.
