MTA Driver Arrested for Running Red Light and Cursing at Police, NYPD Says

MANHATTAN — An off-duty MTA bus driver was arrested for running a red light and cursing out police who pulled her over Tuesday morning, police said.

Evelyn Lord, 34 and who was scheduled to report to work Tuesday, was driving her white Dodge Durango north on Eighth Avenue when she ran a red light at 136th Street in full view of police, officials said.

Police pulled Lord over and noticed she had watery eyes and her breath smelled like alcohol, an NYPD spokesman said.

When police took Lord from the SUV, she started cursing at them and "caused a spectacle," the spokesman said.

Lord locked her arms in front of her and refused to bring them behind her so she could be handcuffed, police said.

Lord was charged with resisting arrest, reckless driving and disorderly conduct, police said.

She hadn't been arraigned as of Tuesday morning, records show.

Lord, who's driven with the MTA since April 2012, been suspended without pay, the MTA said.
