UPPER EAST SIDE — An 85-year-old man was struck and killed while crossing East 71st Street on Tuesday, according to the NYPD.

Vincent Downing was walking west in the crosswalk on Third Avenue, when a blue sedan pinned him against a parked box truck as it was backing up, police said.

Ahmed Marzouk, 53, heard the collision of the two vehicle from his food cart located across 71st Street on Third Avenue.

“I heard a crash, boom, it was a big noise,” Marzouk said.

Downing remained pinned between the two vehicles while two passersby attempted to push the car forward, he said. He screamed out in pain for a few minutes until the car moved forward and he was released, Marzouk said.

“He fell on the ground,” Marzouk said. “There was so much blood.”

Downing suffered severe trauma to his legs and was taken to the New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he died, police said.

The driver of the blue sedan was taken to the same hospital for emotional trauma.

No arrests have yet been made and the investigation is ongoing.
