NEW YORK CITY — Forgetting your reusable shopping will now cost you, and not just the planet.
Last week, the City Council passed a bill requiring shoppers to pay a 5 cent fee for every paper or plastic bag they use. The new law, set to be enforced in October, is aimed at reducing the 9 billion plastic bags that end up in the city’s trash each year.
