VIDEO: 12-Year-Old Harlem Boy Survives Being Run Over by Pickup Truck

By  Rachelle Blidner and William Mathis | May 9, 2016 6:07pm

EAST HARLEM — A 12-year-old boy crossing the street was slammed by a pickup truck Monday afternoon and survived, according to video and a relative.

The boy was hit as he crossed Third Avenue at the intersection with 110th Street Monday afternoon just after he had left school at PS 182.

Security footage obtained from a deli near near Third Avenue and 110th Street shows the PS 182 student running across the busy four-lane avenue into traffic when the pickup slams into him, hurling him forward. He then appeared to be run over by the full length of the truck.

WARNING: This video may be disturbing to some viewers.

Emergency responders took the victim to Harlem Hospital, where he is being treated for serious, but not life-threatening injuries, a spokesman for the FDNY said.

Jesus Cortez identified the victim as his nephew, and said the 12-year-old sixth grader's mother told him the child was undergoing surgery to treat internal injuries.

"God willing he comes out," Cortez said. "He was definitely awake, he was responsive. He threw a joke. He was talking to the cop and the cop asked where you at and he said on the floor at Third Avenue."

Cortez said his nephew is a "good kid" who stays out of trouble and likes playing basketball and Xbox.

He also said that the driver of the truck had stopped, stayed on the scene until it was clear and received a copy of the police report.

Hassan Blnaham, 20, works at nearby Mr. Moe's Deli, which recorded the incident on their security camera.

"It's crazy. I mean he's lucky...if the tires were too close it could have gotten his head," Blnaham said. "God gave him another life."
