Woman Fends Off Would-Be Rapist Who Attacked Her in Stairwell, NYPD Says

BROOKLYN — A woman fought off a would-be rapist who followed her into her Williamsburg building and pulled off her clothes Tuesday, police said.

The woman had walked into her building near Driggs Avenue and South Eighth Street about 8:30 a.m. when the man snuck in behind her and attacked her in the stairwell, NYPD officials said.

He pulled off her clothes but she fought him off and he fled south down Driggs Avenue, police said.

He had not been arrested as of Friday morning, police said.

He's believed to be in his early 20s, about 5-foot-8 and approximately 160 pounds, police said.

He was last seen carrying a black umbrella, wearing a green hoodie, light-colored pants and black sneakers, police said.
