UPPER EAST SIDE — A fifth-floor apartment in a landmarked building on East 66th Street just sold for $52 million — the most paid for a co-op this year, according to the broker behind the deal.

The 7,500-square-foot home at 4 E. 66th St. on the corner of Fifth Avenue features 12-foot ceilings, wood-burning fireplaces, a drawing room and a paneled library, according to CityRealty.

Central Park can be viewed from throughout the four-bedroom unit, including its kitchen and in-home gym.

The apartment, which was sold on April 13, belonged to hedge funder Daniel Nir and his wife Jill Braufman, who listed the apartment for $48 million last year after buying it for $29 million nine years earlier, according to CityRealty's report.

Douglas Elliman brokered the sale, which was not only the most paid for as far as co-ops this year, but is also the seventh biggest price paid for a co-op in city history.

By comparison, a co-op at 101 Central Park Westsold for $35.3 million on Jan. 20 and the penthouse at 137 Riverside Drive sold for $20 million on Jan. 15, according to CityRealty.

It wasn't clear who bought the East 66th Street co-op. Douglas Elliman did not immediately return a request for more information.

The 11-story, pre-war building itself was designed by famous architect J.E.R. Carpenter and built in 1919-20 for politician William Henry Barnum, according to the Landmarks Preservation Commission.
