SOUTH BRONX — Applications just opened for 79 new affordable apartments in the South Bronx with rents as low as $975 for studios.

The building at 950 E. 176th St., right by Crotona Park, will contain 20 studios for $975 a month, 19 one-bedrooms for $1,230 a month and 40 two-bedrooms for $1,486 a month, according to the city.

The apartments are available for households making between $34,766 and $90,600 a year and priority for a percentage of units will go to eligible residents living in Bronx Community Board 3's catchment area, municipal employees and people with mobility, hearing or visual disabilities.

The building is being constructed through the Housing Development Corporation's New Housing Opportunities Program and the Department of Housing Preservation and Development's Mixed Income Rental Program.

Applications for the units opened on April 29 and are due by July 1 at the latest.

Prospective tenants can apply online at nyc.gov/housingconnect or through the mail by sending a self-addressed envelope to Crotona Terrace Building A, 87-14 116th St., Richmond Hill, NY 11418.

Applicants should not apply both online and through the mail and could be disqualified if they submit more than one application, the city said.

Those eligible will be selected for review through a lottery process and selected applicants will be contacted for an interview between two and 10 months after the deadline.
