Teen Driver in Stolen SUV Fatally Hits Pedestrian, Police Say

BROOKLYN — A pedestrian was killed and another injured when a teen driver in a stolen SUV hit them and then fled the scene on foot Sunday, police said.

Chooi Tan, 51, was with a 57-year-old man near East 94th Street and Avenue K about 12:49 p.m. when a teenager behind the wheel of a stolen SUV hit a sedan at the intersection before careening out of control and hitting the pedestrians, NYPD officials said.

The SUV's driver and two passengers who stole the SUV in East Flatbush, hopped out and fled the scene on foot, police said.

Tan, who lived near the crash on Avenue M, was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital, police said.

The 57-year-old man, whose name wasn't released, was listed in stable condition at the same hospital, police said.

The 20-year-old driver of the sedan was treated for minor injuries at Brookdale as well, police said.

Investigators released footage Monday of three teens between the ages of 15 and 20 who they want in connection to the fatal crash, police said.

One was last seen in a dark jacket with an American flag pattern on his shoulders over a dark hoodie with black and white sweat pants and dark sneakers, police said.

Another wore a dark hoodie, a blue T-shirt, brown pants, black sneakers and carried a dark jacket, police said.

The third was in a dark hoodie, a red shirt, black sweatpants and black sneakers, police said.
