Serial Burglar Uses Roof Vents to Steal from Bronx Businesses, Police Say

THE BRONX — A serial burglar has stolen more than $40,000 from businesses in the borough by breaking in through roof vents and a rear window, police said.

The suspect first struck around Feb. 22, when he used a roof vent to break into Happy Land Chinese Restaurant at 2028 Jerome Ave. and stole $17,780 from the cash registers and safe, police said.

His next burglary took place around March 4 at the Galaxy Auto Center at 1942 Jerome Ave., when he again used a roof vent to break into the shop and steal $14,920 from the register, a safe and an ATM, according to police.

He struck a third time around March 17 at the Al-AQSA Market at 2109 Starling Ave., breaking into the store through a rear window and taking $8,000 from a cashier box, according to the NYPD.

Officers described the suspect as a man who is 5 feet 10 inches tall and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt during the auto center robbery.
