INWOOD — A woman who police believe fell to her death was found inside a section of Highbridge Park Tuesday morning.
Officers were spotted in a wooded section of the park near 182nd Street on Tuesday morning.
The woman, whose identity was not immediately known, appears to have fallen, though detectives were still investigating the cause, the NYPD said.
There are cliffs and overlooks in the park, though it was unclear where the woman fell from.
Denise Lauffer, a longtime Washington Heights resident, said she was walking along the park's pathway at about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday when she came across a taped-off area near 182nd Street.
“I thought a tree had fallen or something, because you never see cops out here,” Lauffer said, “but then I saw the other cops further down.”
Lauffer said the area is frequented by local residents and high school students hanging out.
"It's a pretty lookout," she said.
