Queens Will Get a New NYPD Precinct, De Blasio Says

By Kathleen Culliton | April 26, 2016 5:34pm

QUEENS — Southeast Queens will get a new police precinct that will serve Laurelton, Rosedale, Brookville and Springfield Gardens, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Tuesday.

“We heard this from the NYPD and we heard this from the community: We needed to do more to help southeast Queens,” the mayor said at a press conference where he presented the 2017 Executive Budget.

The $82.2 billion budget allocates $70 million toward building a new precinct within the borders of the 105th Precinct, which at 12.67 square miles is the largest in New York City.

The location of the precinct building has not yet been decided.

This announcement comes after a group of local officials from Southeast Queens urged de Blasio to create a new precinct in February.

“For decades, there has been a desire to create a new precinct to allow for faster and better response in the neighborhood,” the mayor said. "This is literally something these communities have been fighting for for 30 to 40 years.”
