BEDFORD-STUVYESANT — Art lovers can tour central Brooklyn’s galleries for free every first Saturday as the second-annual Bed-Stuy Art Walk makes it return this May.

Participants can take a self-guided visit to businesses and arts and cultural centers, or hop on a bus to each venue, including the Richard Beavers Gallery, Zion Gallery and the Macon Public Library's African Heritage Center.

“The art walk was designed to bring attention to the many different institutions that are in Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights,” said organizer Joseph C. Grant Jr., ambassador of arts and culture for Councilman Robert Cornegy.

“People can see works from artists that live locally, to those that are world-renowned.”

The walk kicks off on May 7 with a new shuttle bus option from sightseeing company Hush, known for its hip-hop tours across the city.

Art aficionados will be able to meet up at Marcy Plaza near Fulton Street every first Saturday for the tour, as well as hear musical performances from noon until 2 p.m., Grant added.

In addition to the visual and performing arts, the culinary arts will be highlighted with a different restaurant featured each month.

Visitors can pick up a map of the eight participating venues at Marcy Plaza, local libraries, galleries and restaurants, and organizers are working with Airbnb hosts to distribute brochures, Grant said.

The Bed-Stuy Art Walk will continue through October, and the May 7 event takes place at 12 p.m. through 9 p.m. More information on locations and artists can be found here.
