BUSHWICK — A man defending a family member being picked on by men at a local bar was attacked with bar stools, beaten with a belt and stabbed, according to police and a video of the attack.
The 26-year-old man was in front of Vaqueros Bar and Night Club at 1541 Myrtle Ave. when he confronted the group of attackers, according to police.
The group of eight men retaliated by pummeling the victim with bar stools and whipping him with belts, according to video from a surveillance camera that captured the beating.
The victim, whose name was not released, was rushed to the Elmhurst Hospital at around 11:00 p.m. in critical but stable condition following the assault. He had wounds all over his torso, his shoulder and his left arm, according to police.
Surveillance camera footage outside Vaqueros Bar and Night Club at 1541 Myrtle Ave., where the victim first confronted with his attackers, captured the beating.
Workers at Vaqueros couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
An NYPD spokeswoman said that they didn't believe the victim knew his attackers.
"They were picking on a family member," the spokeswoman said. "He tried to step in."
