Man Shot and Killed Over Turf Dispute in Washington Heights, Sources Say

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A 41-year-old man was shot and killed near his home in what police are examining as a possible turf dispute, sources said.

Dejon McInnis was shot and killed a little after midnight on Friday, April 15 at 500 W. 157th St., after three men approached him and pulled out a handgun, sources said.

McInnis, who lives near the street where he got shot down, was in possession of crack-cocaine, police said. Sources said investigators are seeking to determine whether the incident was part of a turf dispute.

McInnis was rushed to Harlem Hospital shortly after the incident, police said, where he was pronounced dead. Although he was shot once according to ballistic evidence, police said the bullet possibly struck an artery.

According to police, who said they received more than one call, a witness heard and observed the assault from an apartment window.

No arrests had been made as of Friday afternoon and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
