MIDTOWN — A pedestrian was seriously injured after a van hopped onto a busy Midtown sidewalk and hit him Thursday afternoon, witnesses said.

The man, whose name and age were not immediately released, was at the corner of Seventh Avenue and West 39th Street about 1 p.m. when a southbound white van hopped the curb and slammed into a Wells Fargo bank there, witnesses and FDNY officials said.

"He lost control and slammed into the building. I saw people diving to get out of the way. One guy dove into the building. I saw a woman with a baby carriage running to get out of the way," said Kol Rukaj, a worker at a nearby construction site.

"The guy's leg was bleeding and they got him out to put him in the ambulance," Rukaj said.

The man was treated for serious injuries at Bellevue Hospital where he's listed in stable condition, the FDNY said.

An NYPD spokeswoman did not have further information about the crash.
