STATEN ISLAND — A bike tour next weekend will take riders past the sights of Staten Island and through the under construction Freshkills Park.

Transportation Alternatives will host the first of its new "Bike the Boros" series on April 17 with a ride highlighting what the borough has to offer and the new bike lanes that have been put in the last year, organizers said.

The event — a revamped version of the advocacy's group "Tour de Staten Island" series — will offer riders a 50-mile course or a 35-mile "ride-at-your-own-pace" group tour, Transportation Alternatives said.

The routes will pass through the new bike lanes on Clove Road, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art and Historic Richmond Town and let riders inside the former landfill being turned into Freshkills Park, organizers said.

The ride will start at Flagship Brewing Company, 40 Minthorne St., and cyclists 21 and over who participate will get a free pint from the brewery at the Finish Festival.

Registration for Bike the Boros Staten Island is $50, $35 online. Check in for the 50-mile ride is from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and 9 to 9:30 a.m. for the 35-mile ride. A Finish Festival will follow at Flagship Brewery from 12 to 4 p.m.
