BATTERY PARK CITY — The MTA will hold a public forum on Thursday, April 7 to get public input on a plan to restore the W line this fall and to allow the Q line to serve the new Second Avenue subway extension, which is scheduled to open later this year.
The public meeting on the proposed changes will take place at 5 p.m. at the MTA's Manhattan office at 2 Broadway, 20th floor.
In February, the MTA announced the resurrection of the W train, which was shut down in 2010 due to budget cuts. The revived W line would run service from the Astoria Ditmars Blvd station to Whitehall Street in Manhattan, effectively replacing Q service in Queens, according to the MTA.
Under the proposed plan, the Q line would temporarily end at 57 St/7 Av but will continue to 96 Street when the Second Avenue Subway is completed.
N trains will operate express in Manhattan from 34 St-Herald Sq to Canal St, a change from its current local service in Manhattan. R train service will not be affected by the proposed changes.
The first phase of the new Second Avenue Subway will connect the Q train to the Lexington Av/63 St F train station and add three new stations at 72 St, 86 St and 96 St.
Earlier this year the MTA decided to use $66 million in back up funds to finish the Second Avenue extension on time in December.
