QUEENS — An ambulette driver has been charged by police after fatally striking a pedestrian crossing a Flushing street Tuesday morning, the NYPD said.

Ramon Ortiz, 55, was making a left turn onto 35th Avenue near Prince Street at 8:57 a.m. on Tuesday when he hit a 57-year-old man walking across the crosswalk, police said.

Ortiz, who was in a 2009 Ford Suburban at the time of the crash, stayed on scene. He was arrested and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian, the NYPD said.

The victim, whose identity hasn't been released, was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital where he died, officials said.
