WEST BRIGHTON — A woman allegedly collected $17,000 in unemployment benefits for more than a year despite working as a nurse during that time, prosecutors said.

Joan Beltran, 58, was arrested Wednesday for obtaining unemployment benefits between Feb. 28, 2011 to Dec. 15, 2012, even though she got a salary from Richmond University Medical Center, prosecutors said.

Beltran was charged with grand larceny and falsifying business records at her arraignment, according to the Staten Island District Attorney's office.

She was released without bail and is due back in court on June 1, according to online court records.

Beltran's lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.
