BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — The 81st Precinct’s Commanding Officer Scott Henderson is moving up the ranks with a promotion to Inspector, officials said Tuesday.

The head of Bedford-Stuyvesant’s eastern precinct previously commanded the 88th Precinct in Clinton Hill and Fort Greene before taking the helm at the 81st in 2014, according to the NYPD.

Henderson joined the force in June 1995, starting his career on patrol in Bed-Stuy’s western 79th Precinct and serving in Harlem, East New York and Bushwick, as well as Police Service Area 3, the Street Crime Unit and School Safety Division.

“I am proud to share my promotion with all the hard working officers assigned to the 81st Precinct as well as the dedicated residents of the Bedford-Stuyvesant community,” he said.

“My success is a result of the positive partnerships that have been established and maintained between the police and our stakeholders. I look forward to continuing to work here to improve the quality of life for everyone.”

Prior to Tuesday’s promotion, the 20-year veteran moved up to Captain in March 2007 and Deputy Inspector in October 2012.

The 81st Precinct, which covers the neighborhood from Marcus Garvey Boulevard to Saratoga Avenue and Broadway to Atlantic Avenue, has seen a 24 percent decrease in major crimes in the last two years, according to the most recent NYPD statistics.
