NEW YORK CITY — New Yorkers can expect a blast of fierce air as winds could reach up to 50 mph Monday night, according to meteorologists.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday as winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are predicted to continue into Tuesday.

The squall could down tree branches and make driving difficult, the NWS warned.

The weather caused travel delays on Monday at La Guardia and Newark airports, according to the Federal Aviation Administration's website.

All cranes are to be secured and operations suspended in anticipation of the windy weather, according to the city’s Department of Buildings

A crane toppled and killed a mathematician from Prague and injured three others in TriBeCa last February. Construction workers had been trying to secure the crane on Worth Street after winds reached 25 mph.
