MIDTOWN — A would-be bank robber threatened to detonate a bomb at a branch and said he would hurt the teller at another, but ultimately left both locations empty-handed, police said.

The approximately 30-year-old male entered a Bank of America at 1680 Broadway around 1:20 p.m. on Friday and passed the teller a note, police said.

“Give me all the 50s and 100s in your drawer now! Or else you will get hurt,” the note said, according to police.

After a bank employee asked the man, “Are you serious?” he responded, “I will hurt you,” police said.

The employee walked away, and the man fled the bank empty-handed on foot, heading north on Broadway, the NYPD said.

The next day around 10:20 a.m., the same man went into a Bank of America at 835 Eighth Ave. and passed the 22-year-old teller a note saying he would detonate a bomb if she did not hand over $15,000, police said.

The man flashed an unknown object, but the teller left the window and did not hand over any money, the NYPD said.

The suspect again left empty-handed and fled north on Eighth Avenue, police said.

Police described the suspect as approximately 30 years old, standing 5-foot-10 and weighing 210 pounds, wearing a black baseball hat, black jeans and a black jacket, the NYPD said.

A Bank of America spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday.
