PARK SLOPE — A man punched a pricey heart monitor at New York Methodist Hospital and damaged the machine, according to a police report.

The 40-year-old Arizona resident hit the $50,000 piece of medical equipment at 4:05 a.m. on March 17, according to the report. The man wasn't arrested.

Other notable crimes in the 78th Precinct this week include the following, with details drawn from police reports:

► A 20-year-old employee of the Gowanus Whole Foods was arrested March 14 after depositing his paychecks twice — once with a mobile device and once at a check cashing business. The two paychecks totaled $1,393.

► A 51-year-old man had his 1999 Mercury Village stolen after he left it parked with the engine running and the keys in the ignition near Second Avenue and Eighth Street at 2:10 p.m. on March 15.

► A 21-year-old was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon on March 18 at 9:57 p.m. near Third Avenue and Baltic Street after police found a knife in his pocket.

► A 47-year-old man was arrested March 17 at 5:05 a.m. after running a red light in his Honda on Sixth Avenue and 15th Street. A police officer noticed that the man had bloodshot eyes and the smell of alcohol on his breath. A Breathalyzer revealed a blood alcohol content of .165, and police also found a small plastic bag that appeared to contain cocaine.

► An employee of Brooklyn Smoke Shop on Flatbush Avenue near Dean Street was arrested March 14 at 11:10 p.m. after he punched a co-worker on the chin during an argument.

► A 23-year-old man was arrested after he jumped the turnstile at the Atlantic Avenue subway station on March 16 at 7:50 a.m. and police discovered a "dangerous knife" in his pocket.

► A 21-year-old man was arrested March 15 at 5:56 p.m. near Fourth Avenue and 12th Street after police discovered he was driving a car that had been stolen from a public parking garage.

Overall, major crime in the 78th Precinct has dropped 29 percent this year compared to the same period in 2015, according to the most recent statistics from the NYPD. There were 164 major crimes reported between Jan. 1 and March 13, 2016, and 115 major crimes during that period in 2015.
