MIDTOWN — A man groped two women at a bagel shop before hurling chairs at one of the victims and an employee who confronted him about the assault, authorities said.
Darrin Brown, 23, approached the women while they ate at Pick A Bagel at 891 Eighth Ave. around 5:50 p.m. on March 18, the NYPD said.
He then “got in their personal space” and began touching the women’s buttocks while exposing himself, police said.
The customers told a male employee what had happened, and he confronted Brown, who “began an altercation,” police said.
At some point, Brown threw a chair at one of the women, leaving her in pain with swelling to her head and arm, according to the Manhattan District Attorney's office said.
Brown also threw a chair at the employee who confronted him, hitting him in the head, the DA’s office added.
A manager working at Pick A Bagel on Wednesday said the employee returned to work after a few days, but declined to provide any other information about the incident.
Brown was arrested and charged with two counts of assault, two counts of sexual abuse and one count of disorderly conduct, the DA’s office said.
He is currently being held at the Manhattan Detention Complex on $5,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on March 24, city Department of Correction records show.
An attorney for Brown did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
