CLAREMONT — A pair of would-be thieves in The Bronx tried to snatch their victim's cellphone at knife point but ultimately came up empty handed, police said.

The attempted robbery took place shortly after midnight on March 15 in front of 233 E. 169th St., between Sheridan and Grant avenues, when the suspects walked up to their 20-year-old victim, took out a knife and demanded his phone, according to the NYPD.

The victim started fighting with the suspects and got a deep cut on his shoulder but held on to his phone, as the suspects eventually fled without taking anything from him, police said.

Officers described the suspects as two men in their late teens to early 20s, and video shows them running down a sidewalk.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the NYPD's crime stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES), then entering TIP577.
