GREENPOINT — A Williamsburg recording studio, a new playground in Greenpoint and a facelift for a park are among the projects vying for tax money in North Brooklyn.

Participatory budgeting season — where residents' votes determine how city funds will be spent in their neighborhood — kicks off this week as ballots can be cast from March 26 to April 3 in a handful of different locations.

Projects that receive the most votes will be funded from a portion of more that $2 million that's been allotted by City Councilmen Stephen Levin and Antonio Reynoso who represent two North Brooklyn districts.

Here's a rundown of some of the projects that you could vote to support

District 33 - Greenpoint, Williamsburg

A Playground at MS 126, Greenpoint

Turn Ericsson Playground, which is currently a cement lot, into an actual playground. It would combine $500,000 of city funds with funding from another source to complete the project.

Community Sound Studio, Independence Towers, Williamsburg

$100,000 in funds will go towards transforming an existing computer lab into a recording studio where youth and young adults can get experience with recording and production.

Meeker Avenue Pedestrian Safety Improvements, Williamsburg/Greenpoint

Help improve Meeker Avenue, a notoriously dangerous thoroughfare, with a $400,000 investment.

District 34 Williamsburg, Bushwick

Technology Upgrades at P.S. 239 (15-17 Weirfield Street, Bushwick) and P.S. 18 (101 Maujer Street, Williamsburg)

$400,000 in funds will go towards laptop carts, 3-D printers, smart boards and desktop computers for two elementary schools.

A Cooler Gym at P.S. 257, 60 Cook St., Williamsburg

Sweltering elementary students are hoping to cool off with a $250,000 to air conditioner for their school's gym.

A Facelift for Fermi Playground and Maria Hernandez Park, Bushwick

These two Bushwick parks will get $500,000 for new pavement, benches and landscaping if it gets enough votes.

To see a complete list of projects in District 34 and for information on when and how to vote next week visit Councilman Antonio Reynoso's site.

If you live in Bushwick, Greenpoint or Williamsburg and you're not sure which district you're in, visit the city council's website. Anyone over the age of 14 who lives in the district is eligible to vote.
