MIDTOWN SOUTH — A would-be robber hit two banks in Midtown on Wednesday in a span of 10 minutes but left both empty handed, according to a police report.

The bank robber, whom police described as a man between 40 and 45 years old, turned up first at 11:05 a.m. at the Chase Bank at 460 Park Ave. South between East 30th and East 31st streets, and demanded money from the teller, who rebuffed him, police said.

The man fled, but showed up five minutes later at the Chase Bank at 2 Park Ave. a block north on the corner of East 32nd Street, according to a police report. He tried once again to demand money from a teller, but the teller turned him away empty handed, police said.

The hapless brigand, who was last seen wearing a navy blue Yankees jacket, a stocking cap, dark pants, and sporting a black backpack, fled to parts unknown, according to a police report.
