BROOKLYN — Investigators don't believe a Sunset Park father's story that his 2-year-old daughter drowned Sunday night after finding bruises on her brother's neck, sources said.

The dad was performing CPR on unconscious Melody Pheng when emergency responders arrived at their home at 652 47th St., near Seventh Avenue, about 8:26 p.m., according to police and WNBC.

She was pronounced dead at Maimonides Medical Center, police said.

Investigators questioned her parents and it initially appeared she may have drowned, WNBC reported

Detectives later noticed bruises on the neck of the girl's brother and became suspicious of her father's story, sources said. Her brother's name and age were not immediately released.

The medical examiner studied Pheng's body Monday afternoon, but couldn't determine her cause of death without further study, a spokeswoman said.

No charges had been filed against the parents as of Tuesday morning, according to the NYPD.
