LONG ISLAND CITY — Investigators are trying to figure out why a critically injured man was lying in a Long Island City road Sunday night, police said.

They found the 53-year-old man near 21st Street and 49th Avenue about 9 p.m., an NYPD spokesman said.

He was treated at Columbia University Medical Center, where he's listed in critical condition, police said.

He may have been hit by a car, but investigators aren't certain, an NYPD spokesman said.

There were no immediate arrests, police said.
