Pedestrian Hit and Killed by Van in South Bronx, Police Say

HIGHBRIDGE — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a van Thursday as he tried to cross a South Bronx street, police said.

The victim, a man in his early 30s, was trying to cross Jerome Avenue, near Shakespeare Avenue, around 7:22 p.m. when a 59-year-old man driving a 2002 Ford Econoline van hit him, according to the NYPD.

EMS took the victim to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:45 p.m., police said.

The driver of the van remained on the scene. The victim has not yet been identified, police said.

Police made no immediate arrests, but continue to investigate, according to the NYPD.
