Charges Upped to Manslaughter for Man Who Fatally Pushed Girlfriend: NYPD

STATEN ISLAND — A man who fatally pushed his girlfriend in their Staten Island apartment has been charged with manslaughter, police said Friday.

Jeffrey McDonald, 23, was arrested after he pushed Alyssa Johnson inside their North Railroad Avenue home early Thursday morning, causing her to fall backward hit her head and then lose consciousness, police said. McDonald then left the house and called 911.

He was arrested and charged with assault after Johnson was pronounced death at Staten Island University Hospital.

Her death was later ruled a homicide by the medical examiner and McDonald’s charges were upgraded to manslaughter.
