Bronx Church Building Evacuated After Gas Main Break, Officials Say

THE BRONX — A gas main ruptured at a Bronx construction site and forced an evacuation of surrounding buildings Tuesday afternoon, according to the FDNY.

The 8-inch gas main at 4215 Park Ave. near East Tremont Avenue broke after a construction worker struck it at about 2:52 p.m., FDNY and Con Ed officials said.

The Bronx Full Gospel Tabernacle and an adjoining residential building at 4221 Park Ave. were evacuated after the break and there were no reported injuries, fire officials said.

Con-Ed was able to fix the broken main by 4 p.m. Tuesday.
