Upper West Side Man Attempts Suicide With 3-Foot Sword, Police Say

UPPER WEST SIDE — A man tried to kill himself by using a sword to slice his neck and wrist on West 70th Street, police said.

Officers found the 36-year-old on the ground in front of 345 W. 70th St., at Freedom Place, Tuesday morning with injuries to his wrist and neck after receiving a 911 call at 6:22 a.m., the NYPD said.

The man, a local resident, had used a 3-foot-long sword to cut himself, but was conscious by the time police arrived, the NYPD said.

He was listed in stable condition at Mt. Sinai West as of Wednesday morning, police added. 

Residents reported seeing blood splattered on a car outside the residence Tuesday morning while heading to work.
