FINANCIAL DISTRICT — A woman left behind a black sock filled with $3,800 in cash at a Chinese buffet restaurant last week as she paid for her food at the cash register, police said.

The 44-year-old Bronx woman told police that on Thursday she accidentally left the sock filled with the money — her tax return check that she'd cashed — on the counter of Yips at 18 Beaver St., as she paid for her food.

According to camera footage, police said, another woman found the sock on the floor and gave it an employee, then a few minutes later, a regular customer walked in, and the cashier gave him the sock filled with money.

The woman realized she left the money as she was headed to the subway, but by the time she came back, at about noon, 20 minutes after she'd left, the money was gone.

The manager said the man who took the cash had been a regular who came into the restaurant daily, according to a police report.

Police were still investigating the incident.

Yips did not immediately return a request for comment.
