UPPER EAST SIDE — A man stole cash and a bicycle from the Hummus Kitchen on Second Avenue by walking in through an unlocked cellar door, police said.

The suspect entered the Hummus Kitchen near East 84th Street through the cellar in front of the restaurant at 3:40 a.m. on Feb. 2, and made off with $25 in cash and a delivery bicycle worth roughly $800, according to the NYPD.

Since the incident, the restaurant has installed a double lock and a new alarm system, according to Ruben Romero, a Hummus Kitchen manager.

The bike belonged to a delivery man at the restaurant, who personally replaced the stolen bike with a new one, only to have it swiped, again, this time from outside of the restaurant while he was working on Wednesday, according to Romero.

"We're feeling bad about it," Romero said. "This is what he does for a living."

The second theft was not reported to police, according to authorities.

Police described the suspect of the initial burglary as standing between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-9, and weighing 160 to 180 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
